Day 2 in Crete - Knossos Part Two
As promised, here is the next instalment of photos from Knossos (the palace took a long time to look around!).
These are the store cupboards that held the big pots and urns of oil - stretching out underneath the palace in both directions.
The frescos on the walls are restored versions of the originals, with the originals displayed in the archaeological museum in Heraklion (where we went after Knossos).
This is the famous minotaur fresco, restored to full colour by the archaeologists.
These steps are where the theatre used to be, with a raised stage for the royal people to watch the show from.
The last part of the tour showed us this road leading out of Knossos, which is one of the oldest roads (in Europe?) - it stretches on for quite a long way!
I hope you're enjoying our Crete photos - you'll be able to see some photos from our afternoon in Heraklion tomorrow!
