Day 1 in Crete

Kalispera everyone!

We woke up to a warm, but overcast first day in Crete. We were staying in a brand new hotel called Insula Alba - it had only opened at the beginning of June! The hotel looked beautiful in the daylight (despite the clouds) and we wandered over to the restaurant to have breakfast.

The cloudy weather soon cleared up, and we headed straight down to the pool to explore.

After relaxing for a bit by the pool, we wandered over the road to the beach and had a little look around.

The sea in Crete is incredibly clear (especially compared to the UK!) and warm - very appealing indeed!

We wandered along the beach, keeping an eye out for shells (of which there was a disappointing lack of) and I went in for a little paddle.

We wandered up into the village, where grape vines were growing everywhere! The village was quite deserted, so we didn't stay long.

We stopped off at a taverna on the seafront, a few minutes walk from the hotel. We both had our first Greek salads of the trip - and they were so good!

We spent the afternoon lounging by the pool, armed with kindles and sun cream, and had dinner at the hotel overlooking the sunset.

I hope you all have a good day!
