The National Lobster Hatchery

Morning all!

The National Lobster Hatchery was nice and small, so a visit only took about half an hour. The entrance fee also acts as a donation to the hatchery, so it can be kept open. There was a few large lobsters - including this enormous spiny lobster below (wouldn't want to meet him in a dark alley..).

There were also a few little Beadlet anemones - these are all over most rocky beaches!

And a spiny starfish acting a little strangely...

The growing juvenile lobsters are kept in separate enclosures until they are old enough to be released.

When they are really young, before being placed in separate tanks, all the young lobster larvae are put in this one big water tank, where the water whizzes them around for a couple of weeks... I hope they don't get sea sick (ha ha).

Have a lovely day everyone!
